Is there a ride-on mower with a snow blade?

Ride-on mowers and lawn tractors are valuable garden assistants when it comes to mowing large lawns. What’s more, the devices prove helpful when accessories extend the areas of functionality. So, the question arises: are there ride-on mowers with snow blades for use in winter?

A wide range of accessories are available for most lawn tractors, making these powerful garden helpers suitable for year-round use. Sweepers prove practical for spring cleaning, leaf collectors free the lawn of large masses of leaves in the fall and snow blades make it possible to clear snow in winter. But what about the much more compact ride-on mowers? Is there also a model with a snow blade?

Difference between ride-on mowers and lawn tractors

Both our classic ride-on mowers, such as our compact mini-riders, and lawn tractors belong to the group of ride-on mowers. Initially, the term simply referred to the counterpart of push lawn mowers. In layman’s terms, ride-on mowers tend to be small machines without a front-mounted engine block with an engine hood and generally smaller cutting widths. Lawn tractors, on the other hand, are much more powerful and versatile.

Clearing snow with a ride-on mower

The purchase of a ride-on mower is not entirely inexpensive. It makes all the more sense to use the device the entire year for various tasks around the house and garden. In addition, clearing snow with the machine facilitates the work, allowing for far less physical effort, then doing the work manually.

Naturally, a snow blade on a ride-on mower cannot replace a snow blower for massive amounts of snow, but for clearing sidewalks, parking lots or other areas, the attachment is excellent.

Ride-on mower with snow blade - Mini-Rider from Cub Cadet

In the Cub Cadet range, mini-riders not only have a very compact design but persuade with excellent performance. You do not have to do without a comfortable hydrostatic transmission or an exclusive steering system that allows easy operation in summer and winter.

Due to their design, one advantage of these machines is that they can be stored in a space-saving manner. In the garage, they require significantly less space than a lawn tractor. A parking assistant also helps you park precisely .

Having equipment with headlights is not only helpful for mowing the lawn. During the dark seasons, lights prove handy for clearing paths and areas of snow in the morning or evening hours.

The snow blade for ride-on mowers

The snow blade available for the ride-on mower from Cub Cadet is unquestionably effective  with its working width of 100 cm. With a snow blade height of about 35 cm, it is suitable for clearing small amounts of snow from paths and at the same time it can save space when stowed away.

The snow plow blade is easy to operate from the driver's seat. From here, it is both possible to lift and change the positions (5 positions between left and right inclined).

A rubber strip, which helps prevent  sensitive surfaces from being damaged, can be replaced very easily in just a few steps.

The mounting frame is included with some models but can also be purchased separately.

Equipping lawn tractors with snow blades

A snow blade can be retrofitted to a large number of lawn tractors. In most cases, this requires the one-time installation of a mounting frame, plus a quick hitch (with or without drive). This allows the attachments to be replaced in quick time l. Available snow blades are often equipped with a handle so that the position of the snow blade can be conveniently adjusted from the driver's seat.

When choosing the right snow blade, it is important that the size fits the right lawn tractor. In addition, it may be useful to add a rubber bar to the snow blade to help prevent wear and tear on the ground.

It is also helpful to attach snow chains to help keep a good grip on icy surfaces.

Buying a ride-on mower with a snow blade

Before buying a ride-on mower with a snow blade, it is worth comparing different models. Not every device is suitable for moving heavy amounts of snow. If the power or even the weight of the machine is too low, the wheels could spin. On the other hand, it is advisable to purchase a maneuverable device that can be stored in a space-saving manner for use on winding properties.

Compact mini-riders fitted with a snow blade are, therefore, more suitable for smaller snow masses due to their low weight and space-saving design. If you are planning to remove heavy or wet snow over a large area, it is more advisable to purchase a powerful lawn tractor, possibly with a snow blower attached.

Another helpful aspect is the ability to easily mount the mower. This process should always be done before use in snow and ice to help avoid rust formation. This can be problematic, however, for some models.
